There are many ancient Greek legends about the Cretan half-man, half-bull Minotaur. Historically, the bull was the main deity of the Minoan civilization on Crete, and the Minotaur itself, according to legend, is the offspring of King Minos' wife Pasiphae and a sacred bull sent by Poseidon as a gift to the king.
In the interpretation of Alexey Kanis the emphasis is placed on the divine origin of the half bull, its significant symbolic role in the culture.
